Game Day in São Paulo!

Game Day

Today is game day in São Paulo! The mall is full of people getting food before the game (especially Carrefour, the grocery store). People selling shirts and flags are lining the streets and everyone seems to be dressed in red, white, and black (the colors of the São Paulo Futebol Clube. It is a professional soccer team that was started in 1930 and has a huge following. Three hours before the match, the main road nearby was already blocked to vehicles - pedestrians only. The match will start at 7:30 here, and even though I live a couple of miles away, I will hear the fans from my apartment (through the closed windows!). It is fun to see entire families, even multiple generations, all wearing their fan shirts and going to the game together.

I have done some fun things during the past two weeks:

Churros

I normally don't eat at street kiosks, but I did last week - I had a churro that was filled with doce de leite (caramel) with nuts on top!

Delicious!
Delicious! But sugar overload!

The other thing I did was to go to a place called LP Minerais do Brasil, which had so many beautiful rocks and minerals. They were from Brazil and around the world.

Lamps made out of minerals!

I particularly loved the birds made out of stones. They were beautiful.

A parrot

I got some stones and made myself a couple necklaces. It was a fun day!

Beads
Aren't these beautiful colors?

They turned out to be very pretty necklaces! I am still enjoying helping missionaries, but the workload is easing somewhat and I am very thankful for that. I have a little more time to do fun things like making two necklaces!

necklacesI hope things are going well for you and that you are enjoying coming out of that long winter. I heard that there is flooding in Utah. I hope everyone is safe.

And I hope that all of you in other parts of the USA, Brazil,  and the UK are doing well. Please leave a comment!

p.s. It's still an hour to the game and I am already hearing the cheering coming from the soccer stadium! :)

Sister Cheek, it's good to know you are not currently being buried by problems. And we know about soccer in Brazil--when the "world" seems to shut down to honor the sport. In 2010 we were in Rio during the World Cup and experienced riding their subway during a game day. Almost had the train to ourselves!
The necklaces look really nice, as does the bird statue.

Dear Sister Cheek--Sister Seawright and I have finally completed our Pathway missions--well, we are officially done on 31 May but our replacement is already up and running so we are also running--away. We are in Texas for a few days, then Oklahoma doing some genealogy work. Glad things are slowing a bit for you so that you can enjoy some less stressful activities such as listening to rabid football fans!

What fun! I think that you pretty much find a way to have fun no matter what you are faced with. That is a great attitude! Love you

You are definitely where you are supposed to be. The villas are changing rapidly. We had 3 broken legs two weekends ago. One resulted in the death of Brother Soderberg. Funeral Wednesday. Several Sisters have had to move to assisted living. JoLayne is trying to sell her house to get away from Kristi. She isn't thinking quite right about how to go about it. The necklaces are beautiful.

There’s nowhere in the world that can celebrate a game quite like Brazil so I can imagine there’s quite the energy there.

How fun that you were able to make some nice jewelry. It definitely looks very much like you so that will be fun for you to wear.

I’m glad things are easing up a bit for you so you can have a better balance. Balance is good.
